Munnar is a breathtakingly beautiful  serene tourist destination in God’s own country.

It is also abundantly  blessed with natural beauty, tranquil atmosphere and the tropical flora and fauna, which will often leave you super excited while exploring Munnar.

Soothing tea gardens all around, misty  viewpoints & rolling hills make Munnar a must visit. Unending tea gardens, soothing  mountain ranges and hazy peaks, its striking beauty attracts tourists to Munnar Kerala.

Monsoons bring out the greenery even more & waterfalls are at their gushing best. In winters ,Munnar is shrouded in mist & is at its romantic best. The best time to visit Munnar would be from October to February; although it is a favourite during summer months too.

With huge luxurious resorts overlooking the greenery & tea estates, it is an apt destination for honeymooners. Munnar can be as hectic or as slow as you want it to be.

Munnar has to be  experienced more than seen. Some of the best places to see & experiences to cherish in Munnar are:

 1.Tea estates

Munnar is a land of tea estates. Wherever you go, there will be rolling tea estates around. Wandering through them, watching tea pickers at work, taking in the greenery all around, make use of the photo ops here! There are also conducted tea garden tours & tea garden trekking  if you want to spend a day here.

2. Eravikulam National park

This park, located at a height is a must visit .The rare flora and fauna present in the park also attract visitors, especially the nilgiri tahr. Park vehicles take people on small tours where one can experience the biodiversity & watch the animals in their habitat. The drive through tea gardens is excellent & gives beautiful views from this hill top.

3. Mattupetty Dam

A famous tourist  place for all, it should be visited by the first timers to Munnar. There are a lot of tourist activities like boating, zorbing, speed boating and paddle boarding. You can boat or even shop at the stalls selling food and souvenirs. Beautiful views to enjoy all around.

4. Echo Point

One of the best  places to experience the Echo phenomenon, tourists can always be found screaming something and hearing with glee as their voice reverberates.

It is situated by the Kundala Lake at the confluence of three mountain ranges of Munnar Kerala.Beautiful lake & mountains here, plus the echo works very well. Definitely worth visiting.

5. Top Station

Another popular & high viewpoint. A very commercialised one too. Famous for good views when the weather is clear. Would recommend to visit either Eravikulam or Top Station, don’t try both.

6. Tea museum

A must visit when you are in a tea dominated area.It gives a complete overview of  how tea is processed & the various types of tea. A guide will accompany  you to show these processes showing the machinery involved & the time taken. There’s a factory outlet here where various types of tea can be purchased.

7. Devikulam

While Munnar is full of tea gardens, the best ones are in Devikulam. You will also find tea pickers here. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful tea gardens. Do take a few pics!

8. Spice Plantations

Kerala is the land of spices & a spice garden is a natural extension of your visit here. While seeing the spices grow in their natural habitat, a guide will take you through the various types & explain about how to recognise the good ones.

Most also have an outlet for selling farm fresh spices which you can consider for buying.

9. Pothamedu viewpoint

Located near Munnar, Pothamedu Viewpoint is a must visit place in Munnar. Pothamedu is a place to be, if spending some time surrounded by  spice plantations  & beautiful views is what you are looking forward to.

10. Kathakali/Kalari performance

These are  ancient forms of Kerala Arts. Do make it a point  to see this performance during your Munnar trip if you haven’t seen it before. You can see it at   Punarjani Traditional Village in Munnar as well as there are others. You can request your resort to  book them  too.

11. Elephant Camp

Places to visit in Munnar should include a trip to meet the state animal here….you can interact closely with these majestic creatures- feed them, bathe them & ride them. What more can one want? It’s super fun!

12. Ayurvedic Massages

Kerala is popular for its Ayurvedic treatments & Munnar with its pleasant climate makes it the best place for a refreshing spa and health treatments, especially  if the Munnar tires you out!

Most waterfalls like Lakkam, Attukal  will come just before Munnar town on the way from Kochi. While they are at their best during monsoons, they are still good to look at in other seasons. Do stop over & take some pics!

While these are the usual places visited by tourists, you can also try a few different ones like trekking, tea tasting etc.

Food in Munnar is global as well as local; veg & non veg , both are easily available. While in Kerala, do have a sadya…meal served on banana leaf.

Shopping in Munnar should definitely include tea & spices. It is the perfect place to shop for all varieties of  tea. Home made chocolates & aromatic oils are also good buys.

A refreshing 5 hour drive from Kochi, Munnar is also well connected with Kumarakom, Alleppey &  Thekkady for onward journeys to explore Kerala.
